Sustained increase of women in trademark and patent applications
The Intellectual Property Office of Peru (Indecopi) presented three studies related to the participation of Peruvian women in the intellectual property system, all of which highlight the sustained increase of women in trademark and patent applications and registrations.

The studies were presented by Indecopi authorities during the III Subregional Meeting on Intellectual Property, Innovation and Gender Equality, which was carried out in Lima from November 6 to 8, 2019. The event looks to analyze possible lines of action to incorporate gender equity in Latin American intellectual property offices.

According to the reports, since 2014 applications for invention patents and utility models filed by Peruvian women have increased steadily across the country, with a record number in 2018, when at least one woman was named as an inventor in 25% of all applications.

Yearly averages show that in 27% of trademark and patent applications with female inventors, the ownership of the applied registry corresponds to a company, university, research center or other entity. In the remaining 73%, ownership rests with the same inventors.
