As of September 16, 2024, the National Industrial Property Office of the Dominican Republic (ONAPI) has made its trademark data available in the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) TMview search tool.
With the addition of more than 298,000 trademarks from ONAPI, TMview now provides information and access to more than 125,3 million trademarks in total, from 78 participating offices.
Since the launch of TMview on 13 April 2010, the tool has been used for 135 million searches from users worldwide, with those from Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the USA among the most frequent visitors.
The integration of ONAPI in TMview is a concrete result of the EUIPO’s collaboration efforts in the Caribbean through the EU-funded IP cooperation CarIPI project.
In 2008 the European Union and the CARIFORUM States signed an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), intended to increase competitiveness, economic growth and development, supporting regional integration in the Caribbean and participation in the world trading system. The implementation of the EPA is a priority for both regions.
In this context, the CarIPI project, funded under the 11th European Development Fund, is conceived as one of the components of the Programme ‘Support to CARIFORUM States in furthering the implementation of their Economic Partnership Agreement commitments and in meaningfully reaping the benefits of the Agreement’. CARIPI aims at contributing to attaining the commitments and expected benefits of the EPA, laying the ground for a sustainable long-term regional framework and cooperation on Intellectual Property (IP).
