The 38º place puts Uruguay as the second region leader, compared to the 18 Latin American economies that were evaluated. Uruguay is behind Chile but over well-known IT engines like Panama and Costa Rica.
Uruguay´s progress in the ranking is a result of its advances in electronic services (ranked 14º in the world) and the incorporation of electronic citizen participation (ranked 3º in the world).
The report, presented at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, measured the drivers of the ICT revolution and took into consideration the impact that these technologies could provide to businesses, countries and societies to boost the worldwide economy.
