Trade and Investment Framework

At the invitation of Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Uruguayan Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo traveled to Washington D.C.During their meeting, they reviewed bilateral trade, expressing mutual support for the successful conclusion of the negotiations between Uruguay and the U.S. Trade Representative to update and modernize the Trade and Investment Framework.
“These updates can deepen commercial ties, improve the investment climate, and enhance opportunities for small businesses”, both said in a joint statement.
TIFA provides strategic frameworks and principles for dialogue on trade and investment issues. Topics for consultation and possible further cooperation include market access issues, labor, the environment, protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, and, in appropriate cases, capacity building.
