Uruguay, top Latin American country in IDI 2017
The World Economic Forum has issued its Inclusive Development Index for 2017, which ranks 109 countries according to their current level of inclusive development, based on performance in three leading areas: Growth and Development; Inclusion; and Intergenerational Equity and Sustainability. Each area is in turn divided into a number of sub-indexes, including GDP per capita, labor productivity, employment, healthy life expectancy, median household income, inequality, public debt, and carbon intensity of GDP.

The index provides two separate rankings: one for the 30 richest countries in the world (advanced economies), and another for 79 developing economies. Uruguay comes in sixth place in the ranking of developing countries and is the best placed Latin American country. Uruguay also scored high in specific indicators, with outstanding performances in median income (ranking first among the 79 developing economies), growth and development (fifth place), GDP per capita (sixth), and life expectancy (eighth).
