Venezuela analyses a teleworking law

The goal is to regulate the expansion that telecommuting has had throughout the country, both in the public and private activity, to achieve better flexibility, rules and behaviors between employers and employees. Through a clear contract between the two parts, the law looks to improve employees work-life quality and effectiveness while allowing companies and institutions to keep a steady and controlled compliance of their daily needs.“As a cause of the pandemic teleworking or remote work has increased and there have been a lot of new experiences in that field. In the case of our ministry, last year we began to debate this issue. We have not yet developed a law but we are working on that proposal,” said Eduardo Piñate, Minister of Labor, to the local press.
Among other things, the goal of the future regulation is to assure that the teleworker - who totally or partially executes works or provides services in places other than the employer’s establishment- has the right not to be contacted and to disconnect from digital devices outside of the working hours and during leave periods.
