The Cellular Therapy Unit (UTC) of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC) is completing legal procedures to obtain the sanitary registration of UTCell, the first trademark for a biomedical product created in Venezuela.“The ultimate goal of UTCell's approval is to ensure that this line of biological products have the approval of the health regulatory entities in our country, and thus be applied in the field of regenerative medicine both nationally and internationally,” said José Cardier, head of the UTC.
UTCell looks to name different type of cell therapies to regenerate bone, skin, cartilage and dental pulp, “promoting respect both for life and human dignity based on the bioethical principles of non-maleficence, beneficence, autonomy and justice.”
The Cellular Therapy Unit of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research was founded in 2008, one of the few centers in Latin America with the capacity to carry out clinical trials with stem cells in human beings, which places Venezuela at the forefront of the region.
