Venezuela Grants Six New Protected Geographical Indications

Venezuela has added six new Protected Geographical Indications. The Autonomous Intellectual Property Service (SAPI) granted these designations to Yaracuy Avocado, Boconó Coffee, Mérida Coffee, Miranda Coffee, Goat Cheese, and Táchira Bread, bringing the country’s total to thirteen PGIs.
According to SAPI, the goal of these new designations is to ensure the authenticity and quality of emblematic Venezuelan products while promoting local economic development and improving the international positioning of national goods. GIs serve as legal tools that protect geographical names linked to specific characteristics derived from their place of origin.
With these six new GIs, Venezuela now complements its three existing Denominations of Origin: Cacao de Chuao, Cocuy de Pecaya, and Ron de Venezuela.
