Venezuela has launched a national consultation to strengthen its 2024-2031 Intellectual Property Strategy. Led by the Autonomous Intellectual Property Service (SAPI), the initiative invites input from institutions, creators, and the general public to shape a policy that supports innovation, traditional knowledge, and cultural identity.
The National Intellectual Property Strategy 2024-2031 is a comprehensive state policy that spans all productive and creative sectors of Venezuela. It aims to leverage intellectual property to drive the country's sustainable development. The strategy focuses on five key themes: strengthening national identity, education and innovation, a diversified economy, scientific and health development, and economic transformation. The goal is to create a robust IP ecosystem that fosters economic growth, job creation, cultural protection, and improved quality of life.
Some of the topics discussed in the strategy are focused on Venezuela's experience in promoting Protected Geographical Indications and Controlled Designations of Origin. Key aspects included the characterization, approach, and marketing of these products, as well as the challenges and opportunities they face.
