World Intellectual Property Day
By Pittaluga Abogados

The date, observed annually on 26 April, was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2000 to raise awareness on patents, copyright, trademarks and designs around the globe. This year´s theme is "Movies: A Global Passion", and therefore Uruguayan IP agencies and authorities focused the conference around two panels carried out by national experts: "Movies technological evolution, from production to exhibition" and "Future outlook of the industry".
In his statement MEC minister Ricardo Ehrlich assesed positively the fact that Intellectual Property is "finally on the table" of the national agenda, explaining that "until recently the country was sailing in the waters of informality" because IP matters were relegated. "Today we are committed into a country where its wealthiness are the capabilities of its people and that relies on a society established through rights".
Meanwhile MIEM minister Roberto Kreimerman said that intellectual property "accompanies the economic, social and cultural development of the countries all around the world".
