World Intellectual Property Day in Honduras

Within the framework of the World Intellectual Property Day and with the purpose of promoting among the general public about the benefits and advantages of IP, the General Directorate of Intellectual Property of Honduras organized a workshop in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The event was focused on young inventors, creators and entrepreneurs that can use IP rights to achieve their goals, generate income, create jobs, tackle local and global challenges and support community and national development.

“We need to promote the use of intellectual property as an engine for development, encouraging young Hondurans to contribute to the community and the national economy,” stated Camilo Bendeck, director of Hondura’s IP Office. “Intellectual property has been a support for businesses, micro, small and medium sized companies and for entrepreneurs, providing service and advice on the registration of trademarks, patents, copyrights and electronic signatures,” he added.

The workshop discussed topics such as relationship and differences between copyright and industrial property, the importance of creative industries and the development of young people in the era of communications and competitiveness

It also highlighted the value of the WIPO Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC), a program which works globally and provides innovators in developing countries with access to locally based, high quality technology information and related services, helping them to exploit their innovative potential and to create, protect, and manage their intellectual property rights.
